Temporal Scanline Blending - An problem with old anime TV masters
I've been analysing what artifacts the original masters of Kodocha had, since this series has some problems with relation to video quality.
The series hasn't rescanned until today, so we only have the original TV D2 broadcast masters, digitized to modern home-video formats, and these broadcast masters have some problems. Why i'm saying about Kodocha's masters? Because one of these masters's problems you can see on older anime TV masters of the time. Temporal Scanline Blending (A result of poor telecine) This effect happens when a series uses a telecine device that samples each new field by scanning down the image. However, as the sampling happens, this causes the field to blend in the next image, and this grows more and more as the sampling continues. It's the reason Eva Renewal had to be made (in addition to the infamous Gainax stutter). The problem is, i can't find any filters what can fix that in the best way possible. I did see a user named kriNon, who said he's trying to make a filter that mostly solves this issue, but i can't find any recent updates. I don't want exactly a perfect filter, but like, the best possible. Maybe there are plugins who already have that, i don't know. If it's impossible to fix or not, i don't know too. If anyone can help, i will be very greatful. |

Interlaced frames are poor examples. The issue becomes more clear when you perform a temporally-naive bob-deinterlace.
