Tips for 60fps 720p/1080p encoding?

I recently built a new PC and it's capable of recording games at 1280x720 or 1920x1080 at 60fps. I am wondering if there are any settings that I should change in x264 to make the overall quality better or improve decoding speed for 60fps material.

The 2 things that come to mind are "frametype lookahead" and "tune: fastdecode" Should I use these? If so, what would be a good value / tune?

Also, choosing the "fast" or "faster" x264 preset can sometimes benefit decoding speed at the expense of encoding simplicity, but is there a better way to improve decoding speed without using the "fast" or "faster" presets?

I am familiar with AviDemux, XMedia Recode, Mediacoder, FFCoder and MeGUI. Not sure if that's relevant but I would prefer to use GUIs to tinker with the settings, I will struggle using a command-line.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
-Neil

x264 will be using lookahead with the default settings. You should use a tune appropriate to your content. A cartoon-like game should use animation, a very realistic one may want film. You don't have to use one though.

Use a preset that lets you encode as slowly as you want. The fastdecode tuning is there for fast decoding!

preset -> tune -> user set options -> fast first pass -> profile -> level
Doom10 - Of course it's better, it's one more.
