Defeating Thor

Thor has defeated Smartripper, which reports the "Some files are still locked, try opening with a player" message even after the disk has been played with VLC, cyberlink, etc.

Thor has defeated DVD Decrypter, which reports a technical jibberish error message.

Thor has defeated DVDFab 9, which reports only one program chain clocking in at 6 seconds long.

Thor only very narrowly defeated DVDFab 8, which reports multiple program chains of close to but not quite exactly the movie's 1 hour, 54 minute, 44 second running time. My first attempt at ripping one of them yielded a solid 1 hour and 20 minutes of the movie, all with perfect A/V synchronization. However, I am in no mood to play Humpty Dumpty with all the random chapters and titles strewn around the disk, especially when not a single one of them even matches the first chapter's correct running time (10 minutes, 29 seconds).

RedFox AnyDVD did not help Smartripper or DVD Decrypter in their battles.

I don't want to try DVDfab 10 or 11 because that program just keeps getting more annoying, intrusive, and restrictive with every new version, and because I don't enjoy formatting my hard drive and reinstalling my 3 operating systems every 30 days.

What are my options?

Edit: I tried just opening up the disk in Explorer, arranging icons by type, and performing a dumb, blind copy-and-paste of the first half-dozen VOB files that were 1 GB in size, and the one following them. This worked well enough and I was able to produce a version of the movie that was only 7 seconds longer than it was supposed to be, with perfect A/V synchronization. The extra running time seemed to come from a teeny bit of "garbage" at the beginning and after the credits.

I only ever use RipItForMe (which uses DvdDecryptor, but supplies it with Protected sector list),
then use DvdShrink to select the one with correct PlayTime (re-author mode).

Might be worth a try.

Have you tried MakeMKV

dvd decrypter in iso mode should never fail as it just decrypts individual blocks without any real sense of the structure of the file system (except if the disc has bad blocks, but haven't seen one of those for DVDs in ages, though in truth my movie ripping has mostly moved to blu-ray realm)
