HD-DVD > BD9 audio problems
I've been trying to do a movie-only HD-DVD to BD9 of "12 Monkeys" and can't get the audio right: I followed the guide by Furiousflea, and BD-Rebuilder seems to run just fine, but the resulting BD9's m2ts file has no audio, though it is larger than the m2ts (which oddly *does* have audio) that is left in the "workfiles" directory created by BD-RB. I considered replacing the m2ts file in the BD9 output structure, but I'm guessing there might be conflicts with metadata contained elsewhere in the BD structure. Any thoughts on why the final shrunken workfile m2ts file plays back just fine, but no audio on the larger m2ts that is part of the proper output?
Also, thanks to jdobbs for letting us test this very useful program and everyone else who is contributing in their respective ways. |

I encoded wanted, about 40gig to bd25. Full movie rip. Kept dts audio, everything works fine except the movie wont play. all the extras work just as expected, but selecting play or a chapter to start at, it does nothing. Before i try again has anyone had problems with wanted? I have done about 10 other bd25 conversions and they all worked fine. Using 20.03 full movie with extras, there where no errors during the re-encode. Great program btw. Appreciate all the hard work you are putting in this.

eac3to -test It will tell you what extra bits eac3to has\hasn't got access to. It could be that you are trying to decode an EAC3 to AC3 and the required decoder\encoder isn't there. Check in the EAC3TO thread in the audio forum (1st post) to be sure. It turns out that you don't actually need to do the audio conversion and can leave it as is - even if EAC3 Reason I put that step in before was because BDRB wasn't picking up EAC3 streams, and technically EAC3 is only supposed to be used on bluray on streams with more than 5.1 channels. But I've seen a few BDs recently with 1\2 channel audio encoded in EAC3 so...It doesn't really matter. I think that might be your problem, with the audio not playing. |

@A.Fenderson
Hi! You might want to check out the following guide [The HD-DVD to BluRay portion] as an alternative: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=137151 |

I only mention this piracy aspect, to avoid bug reports here. I do not advocate it and have actually purchased the plugin seperately. Think its about £15. I'm not suggesting you are pirating, just a heads up if you find a brick wall etc. To verify your extracted AC3 stream is valid, does it load ok when you add it to TSmuxer GUI? Is it listed as AC3. ( AC3+ IS in the Bluray standard. But the standard dictates that it can only be used on surround audio with more than 5.1 channels. However I can tell you 100% that it is actually used on a few of my Blurays as a mono directors commentry track) So it's very unlikely that is your problem, though I would recommend against using it, as it isn't technically correct and fussy players might stick their tounge out at you. As I said, just make sure that TSmuxer is showing an AC3 stream, make sure you chose a language or whatever also in the GUI. Finally, just because your AC3 stream is playable doesn't mean it is valid for bluray... I think HD DVDs have an AC3 core in the AC3+ track so you shouldn't need anything apart from eac3to....come to think of it? lol Last edited by Furiousflea; 27th March 2009 at 02:17. |

I know Dolby Digital + is in the Blu-ray stabdard, but i also said that HD DVD dolby digital + isn't Blu-ray compliant ( i didn't feel the need to get technical), as for the original author of this problem, are you sure eac3to is extracting the core dolby digital 5.1? it doesn't sound like it is, also are you fixing your vc-1 stream before muxing (1080i 29.97fps fixed to 23.97 1080p)?

If what your talking about is after you extract the video elementary .vc1 stream then load it in Tsmuxer it shoes as 1080i instead of 1080p? It was a bug in eac3to, it's in the changelog if you wanna make sure and will save you a bit of time in furure. Also you can save time by not doing eac3to -> 6 mono wavs -> surecode -> dts audio. The GUI for eac3to doesn't have an option for DTS output but you if you just do it with the command line you can do it in one go...Very easy... eac3to your_m2ts.m2ts This will list the streams and more importantly the numbers 1:, 2:, 3: etc. Find the number that corresponds to the audio you want....Then... eac3to your_m2ts.m2ts 1:\2:\3:...etc then output, in your case just put a .dts at the end.... For example... eac3to c:\movie\movie.m2ts 4: c:\movie\movie.dts This would extract the movie audio into wav and then compress with surecode in 1 go. You can put in other numbers as well in the same command line if you want to demux\encode other tracks at the same time |

My thanks and apologies to all: it seems that similarities with an unrelated earlier error on my part--combined with a potentially buggy Media Player Classic--led me to believe the resulting m2ts file was defective as it wouldn't play back audio in MPC: it plays just fine once burned to BD9.
Thanks for all the advice, though: it still helped me to track down the error and to learn about the options and powers that the various programs involved allow me! I'm having lots of fun using BD-Rebuilder. |

Failed to encode audio - error
I tried to convert "WAR" for the past few days with as a full and movie only backup.
Both come back with the same error. I am using the latest version BD-Rebuilder - v0.20.03beta. I do not want to roll back to a prior release. I have backed up up other movies with this version and others without a problem(except WANTED(had to do movie only) and AMERICAN GANGSTER). Here is the log: Code:
----------------------- [01:45:24] BD Rebuilder v0.20.03 (beta) - Source: WAR - Input BD size: 25.11 GB - Approximate total content: [01:43:00.215] - Target BD size: 22.90 GB - MOVIE-ONLY mode enabled [01:45:27] PHASE ONE, Encoding - [01:45:27] Extracting audio/subs [VID_00005] - [02:01:32] Reencoding: VID_00005 (1 of 1) - ERROR in attempt to reencode audio (AFTEN) [AUD_00005__4352.WAV] [11:18:38] - Failed to reencode audio, aborted And this is a great program by the way. Thanks, jddobbs!!! |

I have to say that the programme has been hugely successful so far but there are two or three reoccuring issues which seem to becoming more and more prominent. I wonder if there are workable solutions of whether jdobbs has an idea of how to address them.
I see them as: 1) Failed to reencode audio, aborted - this is obviously an external issue with the conversion of certain types 2) DoEncoding() - can't copy the original streams to recreate an image 3) Missing audio selection on standalones (seemingly put down to pip) 4) the vc1 m2ts extra files which x264 won't handle - assuming there isn't an easy fix would it be possible to select which streams to re-encode and then recalculate the size (using the min-encode size works but is too broadbrush if the problem extra is the largest one). |

BD Rebuilder v0.20.04 (beta)
Sorry about the lack of updates recently. I've been really busy with other things the past couple of weeks.
I just updated the first post of this thread with a link to an updated version of BD-RB. Changes for this version: Code:
- Corrected an error in which timing adjustments on certain files may not have the PTS updated correctly on LPCM streams. - Added an option to SETUP to keep HD audio streams intact (for BD25 encoding only). - Extended the timeout of the beta. Since I haven't had a lot of spare time lately, I want to make sure the program doesn't timeout for anyone between version releases. The timeout is NOT meant to limit use but instead to keep me from having to readdress the same bugs over-and-over. - Made several changes to accommodate naming convention in newer versions of TSMUXER. - Updated X264 to version r1130. Includes several speed improvements. - Fixed an error related to pass reporting on certain types of encodes. - Reduced the default target size for BD-25. The new setting of 24450 was too large for BD-RB (which has a limit of 23098). - Added setting of the CUSTOM_TARGET_SIZE as an option in the SETUP dialog. - Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes. |
