Ok, gotta test this, do I need to enable/disable Windows HDR since it seems to be bugging on HDR games, where the games handle the HDR themselves

I’ve gotten HDR to work on VP9 YouTube steaming but it is really hit or miss. Downloading them first is a much better solution currently.

Keep Windows HDR toggle to off. Set madvr to passthrough HDR (enable send HDR metadata to display as well). Enable D3D11 in rendering->general settings.

When madvr detects HDR video it will automatically trigger your HDR capable display. On exit, back to SDR.

I have this working well on latest nvidia drivers + latest madvr. Both on FSE or windowed.

I have not been able to get youtube HDR to trigger my display into HDR (using jdownloader to download offline). The usual demos from uhd3d work fine. Maybe i need to use a different downloader?

Edit: Tried forcing the download to only VP9 HDR variants, but still no autoswitching to HDR. Using MPC-HC+madvr+lav nightly. All latest with nvidia.

Thanks guys.

I have no interest in streaming, I'm talking about playing Youtube HDR videos offline.

I'm using 4K Downloader to download the videos, and after checking the files, they are not HDR despite requesting the original 8K or 4K version.

I don't know if other tools are better at selecting the HDR version of the file, it doesn't seem possible with this software.

Please PM me if you can recommend a tool able to download the HDR version of a Youtube HDR video that can then be played with MPC-BE/MadVR/LAV.

Thanks.

Best video downloader tool I've used so far : https://yd.3dyd.com/download/ (same guy who does the youtube ds filter).

To download Youtube HDR video with proper HDR metadata:
-get youtube-dl
-get ffmpeg build
-copy both youtube-dl.exe and ffmpeg.exe to the same location
-run via CLI "youtube-dl -f ((bestvideo[vcodec=vp9.2]/bestvideo[vcodec=vp9]/bestvideo)+(bestaudio[acodec=opus]/bestaudio[acodec=vorbis]/bestaudio[acodec=aac]/bestaudio))/best https://youtu.be/tO01J-M3g0U" (without " and change YT URL)

Some players also support directly playing HDR video that way (unfortunately, I don't know any which support madVR).
The command above is not the shortest possible, but it should always download best available formats.

Edit: Should also add that I didn't invent the format line but received help at youtube-dl Github myself.

Youtube has both SDR as well as HDR for all resolutions. So the resolution doesn't tell you anything. Like aufkrawall said you need to download the HDR streams specifically ("vp9.2", VP9 profile 2, VP9 10 bit).

Thanks both, 3Dyd was the easy way. Unlike 4K Downloader, I was able to select the VP9 HDR HFR version (Webm), which was played in HDR perfectly by MPC-BE/LAV/MadVR. Thanks again for all the help.

3Dyd worked for me too. Thanks everyone for your responses.

I don't think I am getting hw decoding though. The video drops frames constantly. Is it not supported in gtx 1080? I am using the latest lav nightly and madvr. vp9 is enabled in the list of hw decoders. I have tried cuvid, dxva2 native and dxva2 copyback.

Ive been wondering why for a long time why when I upscale Pal DVDs 720x576 to 4K why they never quite fit the left and right side of my motorised masking when set to 4x3. Top and bottom is fine but the left and right sides are less than the masking....

Is it because the scaling is an odd amount to scale and doesnt double correctly like 1920x1080 to 3840x2160 does?

Hi,

Need some help with 23.970 Fps movies. When watching 1080p23.970 movies the sound is a bit off.

Does enabling present a frame for every VSync helps ?

I'm using OLED TV 55C6 LG which is 4K but I change the resolution to 1080p23/24 Fps so I can enabling Real Cinema and have real 24 Fps.

But something is off with the sound

Using Potplayer x64 + LavFilters D3D11 + Madvr 0.92.4

there could be a lot of reason for this.

this will not change audio video sync.
the reasons for a/v sync issues came from bad encodes input lag of your screen input lag of AVRs just to name some of them.

.
Since scaling a 4.3 DVD 720x576 > 1920x1080 > 3840x2160 is none of the reasons the images doesnt scale to the same size width as a 1080 BD 4.3, does, should it or should it not scale the same.

If it should be the same, can you give me a clue please why?
I was wondering if madvr was changing the pixel ratio a bit for 720x576 to 4K....

It can happen that they are not the same: picture on DVD is anamorphic.
Check the OSD of madvr for the actual size.

720x576 isn't 4:3 though, so if its not anamorphic (which it really should be, though), then that explains why its screwed up.

VP9 10-bit decoding is not supported on the 1080. Only on the 1050 (Ti) and the 1030.
