How Do I Fix Gradual AVI Sync Problem With VirtualDub?

I have an AVI that gradually loses sync over time. I've tried following the instructions here ( http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=111451 ) using VirtualDub but the problem is that the file size is HUGE when I save it (from 850mb to over 8gb).

I've tried searching everywhere for a solution to this but I can't seem to find anything.

I'm sorry for my ignorance on this matter. Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated. (I'm not married to VirtualDub, any fix will do).

Thanks!

Make certain that BOTH "Video" and "Audio" are set to "Direct Stream Copy"...

Thanks a lot for the reply. That solved the video size problem.

However, the video still appears to gradually lose sync over time. Any ideas on how I could get it to match up?

Re-read Section B of my post in the thread you earlier referred to at:

Thanks for the reply.

That was the method I'd been trying (before when I had the large file size issue) but the audio is still out of sync when I use the method in part B.

When you originally created the .AVI, did you make it in two parts or only one?

Please load the original .AVI into GSpot and post a screen capture back here...

What was the original source? (The reason I ask is: If it was a VFR video - variable frame rate - like a VFR .mkv or VC1 stream, you have to redo your process converting to .avi properly, this one would be unsalvagable)

If the duration of the audio & video don't match, and this is the usual case for progressively worsening sync problems; this can be fixed by either shinking/expanding either the video or audio to match. The video is usually easier to change. There is more than 1 way to do this, but here is a guide http://www.gromkov.com/faq/faq2004-0064.html

Thank you so much for the link. I'd stumbled upon that before but I was confused. I used the method described in "Situation 2" and it took a little trial and error but I got the audio/video synced very closely.

Thanks again for all of your help!

@chefelf

Please be courteous enough to answer the questions of those who are trying to assist you:

1) I ask you again, when you originally created the .AVI, did you make it in two parts or only one?

2) Why the odd combination of DivX-style packed bitstream .AVI and AVI v.1.0?

And asked by "poisondeathray", what was the original source?
