Want great picture? Care about "HQ chroma sub-sampling" and best chroma scaler?
First make sure your PC-TV setup is ready for real RGB 4:4:4: Official 4:4:4 / Chroma Subsampling Thread

That thread has so many flaws..
The base idea might be good, but some crucial facts are missing or mis-represented.

Also, whats never mentioned anywhere is that a HTPC gets really much less useful if you have no good digital audio output..

I ran the 4:4:4 test on my plasma and it failed.

However, I have fantastic surround sound. So I'll stick with my 4:2:0.

420 is not supported by HDMI, read the thread intro. You got 422.
@Nev, I got 1007 and you know what I mean. I much more care about the picture (chroma) ATM.

One thing that was never communicated there:

You cannot down-sample RGB, so if you're sending RGB, you always send full 4:4:4. Its quite certainly possible that your TV does not display that as RGB, but internally processes it as YCrCb 4:2:2, losing precision in the process, but if RGB goes over the HDMI bus, it will be 4:4:4 (such terms dont even apply to RGB)

PS:
What does "1007" mean? :d

One set driver to RGB444, send picture over DVI output (w/o sound) to TV: result 444. Picture over HDMI output (w/ sound) to TV: result 422. What does it mean and what to do?
"1007" means Onkyo 1007.

I assume you're correct, for me it still doesn't really make a difference though. Thanks for the info.

Does the "overshoot max frame latancy" setting interfere with queuing in madvr? Seems i get more stable playback with it enabled but "present queue" is dropping and it dosn't refill unless i pause and play. I have a fast pc so there should be lots of cpu-power. What does the setting do excactley?

Yea, don't enable that. Toy around with the queues until you find a sweet spot if leaving them at auto doesn't work. Make sure you've done a clean installation of madVR v0.80.

I have to enable "overshoot max frame latency", otherwise I get constant presentation glitches.

Just can't give madshi and nev enough props for their hard work on madVR and LAV. The combination just seems so polished now.
And it's also very nice to see that the CPU load seems to have been lowered, especially in windowed mode.

Don't want to post this twice. Nev, I know you visit this thread often.

1080/60p = slide show w/madVR

I now have a Radeon 6570 and use MPC-HC and LAV to playback my 1080/60p camcorder footage. With madVR selected as the renderer, my videos playback like a slide show. If I select EVR Custom Pres., my videos playback just fine.

Previous setup worked fine as well and the only difference there was the graphics card (GeForce 520) and I had CUVID enabled in the LAV video decoder settings (obviously I can't use CUVID now with my new Radeon card).

NOTE: My interlaced footage (from older camcorder) looks much better (smoother, less artifacts) with madVR and my Radeon (vs. madVR + the GeForce 520). My 720/60p GoPro footage looks good too so looks like just my 1080/60p content is an issue with madVR.

Thanks,

->g.

When doing IVTC with madVR on my PAL X-Files, I get a weird result where every other frame had combing. Like this.

Hi (and sorry for my ethiopic )

Initialise madVR always with install.bat + XPsp3 and MPC-HC builds from xvidvideo.ru:
With 0.79 I becomes the trayicon of madVR 1 of 20 times not to show. Ok, it was not serious problem.
But with 0.80 this icon, and hereby the easy acces to the GUI, is completly lost

With the same mpc-hc build, same GPU, same driver. Therefore I think, this is not a mpc-hc problem -> Downgrade to 0.79, trayicon is back.

p.s.:
Tests with last few versions of mpc-hc. Till 1.5.3.3895 (I mean). Later versions of mpc-hc, till this day 3913, are on my system STURDY broken.
