need help getting good quality out of tmpgenc 4 using in built main concept AVC codec

hey guys i know mainconcept in tmpgenc4 is not going to live up to x264 but i thought i would ask you guys what settings i should use and what setting you guys use to obtain good quality image. i have included 2 screens to show what options i need help with. hope to hear from you guys soon. thanks regards Marty.

For the motion estimation subpel mode the largest size is the worst. More reference frames are and more b-frames can be better. If the setting actually controls the maximum number of b-frames and the actual number is decided adaptively then more are better.

For the motion estimation subpel mode the smallest option is 'quarter pixel' should i use that ?? Maximum number of reference frames it would let me increase is 16. B-frames increased to a maximum of 3. Think these settings will help ? thanks you your advice. regards Marty.
