Hi deank, thanks for the new version w/pre- post-cmds, I will try it soon.

Unfortunately my 1st attempt to make SD-DVD from BD was not successful, I found this Windows "app has crashed" dialog from last night's try:

Code:
Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:	APPCRASH
  Application Name:	multiAVCHD.exe
  Application Version:	0.0.0.0
  Application Timestamp:	47ad49d2
  Fault Module Name:	KERNELBASE.dll
  Fault Module Version:	6.1.7600.16385
  Fault Module Timestamp:	4a5bdbdf
  Exception Code:	0eedfade
  Exception Offset:	0000b727
  OS Version:	6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
  Locale ID:	1033
  Additional Information 1:	5ab6
  Additional Information 2:	5ab614d1c5f0822277be7b0d619c4271
  Additional Information 3:	883d
  Additional Information 4:	883d3f17589b343f935f5b8158c374c0
Before I closed this out, I capped the screen cuz I wasn't sure if mAVCHD had written to the log (which it did not afaict):

After closing, I noticed these in Task Manager:

Maybe the open mplayers were at fault? My CPU was still loaded to 100% after closing the mAVCHD dialog. I have 8Gb RAM 64-bit W7 FWIW. Also not sure where exactly the process failed--I did indeed get a good .m2v 720x480 re-coding, and HCenc's log shows it completed normally.

If there's an easy way to resume-and-mux let me know, else I do know how to re-mux using Muxman "manually".

EDIT: Hmm, not sure why my IMG are not showing...? Will keep trying. Ok should work now.

Such thing may happen with overloaded machine... To avoid such things you can [close] the preview of the transcoding or disable [x] Real-time transcode preview in SETTINGS tab. It is a problem with this mplayer app... It hangs and locks the output m2v file. That's why I added the auto-close of the preview but when size-estimation is wrong it is of no help. (I saw both screenshots).

You can reuse the .m2v file + the audio file (if present... if not, you need to create it yourself). Load the m2v file and in title-properties click [alter detected properties] and mark it as (HD)DVD compliant. It won't be transcoded again, but make sure to place it outside the temp folder.

Sadly in such cases pull-down is probably is not applied to the m2v file and you may need to do it manually with dgpulldown.

I'll try to tweak mplayer's parameters/calls... I sometimes get the same error, but not too often to take deep look into it.

Of course you can just use muxman or another app with the ready m2v file, too.

I will try another (shorter!) project with the new version, and fiddle with these which I did not know about.

For those of you wondering about the new MPEG-2 output for BDMV, it's not "better". Technically, MPEG2 is a less advanced codec than MPEG4/AVC. It was introduced back in the days of DVD and is technically "old".

Deank added support for MPEG2 output via BDMV because it is technically part of the spec, he already had MPEG2 encoders for SD-DVD output, and there is no problem in being thorough.

Just because you can use MPEG2 doesn't mean you will get magically "better" output. In fact, chances are you will get slightly less quality than using MPEG4. However, MPEG2 may provide better compatibility across several devices.

Deank, thanks again for coding this awesome application. I should be able to continue to test it when I get home tonight, and I will report back about my efforts to create SD-DVD output from a Blu-ray. Please feel free to add/comment on/correct any of my above statements.

And make sure to update to 741! Just to be safe use multiUPDATE.exe... I added some code to kill mplayer while doing excessive tries to generate the preview

About MPEG-2: Adub is right, although in some cases it may produce better/comparable results to AVC... Still it is good to have more choices.

Sorry about the first post guys. You can delete it as I am a dumb ass and didn't see this thread!!!

I am using MultiAVCHD to make a compilation BD-R of recorded WWII footage and have followed the online tutorial but I cannot get it to play on my Blu Ray Player.

Here are my steps.

1. Start MultiAVCHD
2. Click on AVCDH/BDMV/DVD Folders Tab and add 10 .mkv files.
3. Author Tab has Stricter AVCDH Folder Format Ticked (Also tried unticked).
4. Everything else left as default.
5. Click Start
6. Let it build the folders BDMV, CERTIFICATE, HDAVCTN & files details.txt, multiAVCHD.log, multiAVCHD.mpf.
7. Burn all folders and files with IMGBURN
8. Put BD-R in BD Player and looks like it is going to play but then just stops with a blank screen.

Have I missed something here? My BD Player is a Panason DMP-BD35

Hmmm...This may be your problem. You don't need all of these folders to be Blu-ray compatible. In fact, you only need BDMV and CERTIFICATE.

Try burning JUST those two folders, and see what happens. The player may be choking on these extra files (some do, some don't).

Hi !
I've encoutered a problem with chapters.
I have some mkv that already have a chapter track : uncropmkv (if necessary) + tsmuxer (or multiavchd) + imgburn (2.5) and it works : i can access to the chapters with >>|
Some of my mkvs have no default chapter track.
I try bluray in tsmuxer with insert or custom chapters (in bluray tab) + AVCHD-patcher : the dvd plays but stop when i use >>|

Have you got any idea to create an available chapter track and use in multiAVCHD ?
thanks

Dean, sorry the noob question... but I'm trying to create a project with 4 MKV files, and I want just one XMB menu, with 4 selectable thumbnails on it, without the play, chapters, setup or title list buttons on it, but I can't find a way! How I'm suppose to do that? What options I'm missing?

Try to use [AVCHD strict] output mode after you click [START].

By creating ONLY TITLE-LIST menu.

Untick [x] Create top menu and select only [x] Add title list menu (or the classic one) (AUTHOR tab)

Click the title name to open title-properties. There you can create any number of chapters you wish.

Did multiAVCHD become a rocket-scientist grade program or what?!

I guess that will be the in the next update, prior to the language-translation support.

Now seriously:... would anyone post an updated tutorial how to use multiAVCHD?

I know I have to do it, but I postpone the task since last June (2009).

Many thanks for these! My multiPRE.cmd is
Code:
powercfg -change -standby-timeout-ac 0
powercfg -change -monitor-timeout-ac 1
my multiPOST.cmd
Code:
powercfg -change -standby-timeout-ac 30
powercfg -change -monitor-timeout-ac 10

I tried another HD-to-DVD conversion and it worked, except I have to try again as it missed the subs (maybe needed the hardsubbing selection?)

Also, HOW does one "select a title for processing" in this way? Regardless of what I do, after I click SD DVD I always see a dialog "No titles set for DVD processing! Process all (x) as DVD?". How to "set" for processing?

Further, if I click "No" to the above, mAVCHD seems to go ahead and process anyway and I have to abort if it is processing all titles when I wanted just one.

Transcoding of a title depends on what you set in Title properties -> [TRANSCODE]

If you didn't make a choice, once you click [START] and select authoring format you're given the last chance to select what you want as a final result. For example - you loaded a Blu-ray playlist and click SD-DVD - then multiAVCHD will auto set transcode options and will reencode the playlist. Always make your mind before you click something in the output-selection window (after you click [START]). I can't add 10 "Are you sure?" prompts.

In case you wish to transcode - always 'visit' the [transcode] window. There is a button in MEDIA tab.

Supported subtitles for SD-DVD are external + internal (mkv). If you import BD/HD-DVD/AVCHD structure you need to import subtitles manually as external tracks.

@deank,
I'm already working on a guide for some of multiAVCHD's functionality (mostly HD->DVD) right now.

However, over time, I will continue to push out guides for extended multiAVCHD use.

Is there something in particular that you would like me to cover?

Nothing in particular... but mostly:

* Read button labels
* Hover with the mouse over an option and read what it is supposed to do.

I already posted about all the things I can think of few posts up. multiAVCHD does a lot of things so it is not possible to cover it in one guide anyway.

Thank you for taking time to create some useful tutorials... ATM there are NONE that I read so far that make any sense or are of any help.

Oh, it's my pleasure. (just need to find some time in the next few days. This weekend should be good.)

If I can get my screencasting software setup properly again, I'll even toss in a few screencasts while I'm at it.
