List of bluray-drives with their features (e.g. BusEncryptionCapable)

Hello!

Although busencryption is already supported by libaacs and other tools, it still requires a valid host certificate - so the easiest way to circumvent problems is to take care when buying a drive and choose one that isn't BusEncryptionCapable
At the moment it seems as if more or less all vendors started to make their drives BusEncryptionCapable in the year 2012 - so I guess that there are no new drives available that aren't BEC
(but for example I've bought all my drives as used drives and never encountered a problem with them - so at the moment 2 of my 3 drives are not BusEncryptionCapable )

I'd like to create a comprehensive list of bluray drives and their features and I've included a new feature in the FindVUK tool that allows to easily read all interesting information from the drive so that it can be posted here. (will be available with Release 0.86)

So please download the most current FindVUK release and simply execute the included batchfile 'FindVUK - ShowDriveDetailsForAllDrives.bat' - it will start FindVUK with the command line parameter 'showdrivedetails' and this simply checks all optical drives for their features (only bluray drives are interesting at the moment).
Finally a text-file 'PleasePostInDoom9Dorum.txt' will be created in the FindVUK directory and it includes the interesting details about the found drives.

And now a few words about the different columns in the list:
  • The first 3 columns (VENDOR, PRODUCT-IDENTIF., REV.) and 'VENDOR SPECIFIC' are simply retrieved with the INQUIRY command (for details look in the SPC3R23 specification). The 'VendorSpecific' Part is really a specific one - I've noticed a lot of special characters in this area and very often there are NUL characters in this area - to save space in the table I've decided to shorten repeated NUL characters: e.g. (NULx4) means that there are 4 NUL characters in a row
  • FIRMWARE CR. is the FirmwareCreationDate - it is retrieved with the GET CONFIGURATION command for the 'Firmware Information Feature (010Ch)' (MMC-6)
  • INTERFACE shows the interface of the drive - it is retrieved with the GET CONFIGURATION command for the 'Core Feature (0001h)' (MMC-6)
  • DRIVETYPE is creating by parsing all profiles returned by the GET CONFIGURATION command for the 'Profile List Feature (0000h)' (MMC-6) and creating a user readable string from the results
  • BusEncryptionCapable and BindingNonceGeneration are both included in the 'FEATURE DESCRIPTOR'
  • FEATURE DESCRIPTOR is a list of the supported AACS features - it is retrieved with the GET CONFIGURATION command for the 'AACS Feature (010Dh)' (MMC-6) and can be used to examine for other features that aren't available as dedicated column at the moment.
(had to remove the columns 'FIRMWARE CR.', 'VENDOR SPECIFIC', 'FEATURE DESCRIPTOR', 'COMMENT' and make the columns BEC and BNG smaller due to a limit of 16000 chars per post ... the original file is attached and can also be downloaded here: TinyUpload 20200201 )

Note about Model LiteON iHBS112: there are lot's of different types available! Model "LiteON iHBS112-115 2 - Manufactured January 2012" is BusEncryptionCapable!

When running 'FindVUK - ShowDriveDetailsForAllDrives.bat' my BD drive gets locked (eject button doesn't work anymore) and FindVUK window doesn't respond anymore (not possible to close with task manager) and I have to to powercycle the computer (Windows Vista x64 refuses to close down)

This is everything in the log

Hmm... this is really strange... please download the example from the MS site here: EnumCD and check what happens when you run it.
Basically I'm doing exactly the same things as this example...

Thanks!

No problem running EnumCD...

But it doesn't matter if other people don't have the problem. I have the same drive as you anyway.

Is it possible that a virus scanner or something similar is blocking the execution at a certain point?

If this is not the case please try this one here: FindVUK 0.86.2 (removed the link because the version shouldn't be used any longer)

I only added additional logoutput - so eventually this will help me understand what is happening in your case.

I only have MS Security Essentials running, turning off realtime protection didn't seem to help. This new version also gets stuck

Did you have a disc in the drive while checking? Or has the drive been empty?

Yes - this is the usual output you get when you simply start FindVUK - at this point it's waiting until you insert a blu-ray into the drive, will monitor the progress of the passkey decryption and as soon as it notices that passkey got the vuk it will create a memory dump of passkey, retrieve the vuk from the dump and validate it against the protected disc to verify that it is the correct vuk

In case you want to get the details of your bluray drive please start FindVUK with the attached batchfile 'FindVUK - ShowDriveDetailsForAllDrives.bat' - thanks!

I released 0.86.3 - basically it includes only a lot more logoutput in the procedure that is called after the last line of your previous log and a workaround for an error that might cause your lockups... there's a loop that eventually never reaches the exit-condition... so I've implented a counter to stop it when it reaches a certain amount of cycles and will output a request to inform the user about this special error.

Hope we can track down the problem

Hi! I think I know where the error is coming from - but it would help if you could get me the logoutput of the next debug-release:

findvuk 0.86.4

In addition to the logfile you will find a file called 'MMC_MemDump.dmp' in the directory of findvuk - in case the logfile isn't enough the dump should allow to clearly track down the bug

But I guess the logfile alone will be enough..

Thanks for your patience with me!

That gives less log output and no memdump. I notice the version is 0.86 instead of 0.86.4
