what need to be selected to get proper 25fps frame rate converted audio+video together please?

thanks guys

Video Tab => Deinterlace Filters => "Half Framerate".

Quite right !

Funny enough, I had a similar problem recently trying to convert BergensBanen released by NRK in Apple 1080 i50 (7 hour train trip in Norway).

The Norwegians seem to love Slow TV more than any other nation (I guess it's the long winter nights).
I've never seen it done so professionally ... by a national broadcaster, followed by such a huge audience,
in realtime and ... released to the public under Creative Commons licence.

The original file is a 246 GB file downloadable by torrents from NRK.
They also released Hurtigruten [comment] (134 hr boat trip up the Norwegian coast) in Full HD ... a 600 GB file download.
It'll make a great x265 project since the original program aired on TV @ 720p ... but should compress nicely in 1080p.

That said, HDConvertToX worked flawlessly.
(It's a shame all the goodies can't be updated ... but x265 is out there)

It's all good

Variable quantizer profile

Where can I find a variable quantizer profile ... one that delivers the perceived quality of Q19 but the filesize of Q20 or Q21 .

I've seen 2-pass encodes with quantizers scattered all over a 5 or 10 quantizer range ...
that seem to maintain a quality consistancy well beyond their single quantizer equivalent (As measured by AVInaptic).

That said , I don't really want to get into 2-pass encoding (since a target filesize for each movie holds no interest to me) ...
but I would like to achieve a more efficient 1-pass Q19.
It might be a plan to get into a new cutting edge x264 app ... what's good to go!

Thanks much

There is 2-pass quality encoding, which should theoretically make sure the bits are used more effectively despite a file size not being targeted. I think it may even allow setting min/max values. I remember seeing a setting like that in XviD4PSP.

Hmmm ... looking good indeed ... very perky for sure.

I've been following the guys on x265 HEVC Encoder with some discussion on
'perceived' constant-quality encoding vs straight CRF.

Thanks much

I remember vaguely that one can do something similar in HDConvertToX, by putting in the .ini:
Allow CRF + 1 pass encoding=1.

... I did find the CRF + 1 pass ... and gave it a go.
I don't really understand the concept but it did ... SET bitrate on the 2nd pass
(gained from CRF 21 for an episode of Friends on the 1st pass) .

Funny enough , the final product flatlined @ CRF 22 ... with a correspondingly smaller filesize .
I can only surmise that buzzqw added some magic into that 2nd pass that boosts the quality.
I didn't try to make a visual comparison since it just seems opposite to the goal of
'constant perceived quality' with 'extremely variable bitrate' .
The CRF+1pass seems better suited to streaming where a constant bitrate is more important.

That said ... I'm still hunting down the perfect encode.

Thanks much nx6 and Sharc.

I think the idea was to do a CRF encode in pass1 which sets the "Quality" level. Just tell x264 to make a .stats file. Then do a second pass using the bitrate from pass 1.
The second pass will improve on the perceived quality by redistributing the bits (bandwidth) most efficiently.

I am not sure what the improvement would be compared to a lone CRF pass, as I have never tried this "Quality based 2-pass" method.

Mighty fine indeed ... very spiffy (even the site uses MS Silverlight).

Downloaded Version 7 (Doesn't install + all-inclusive EXE ... very neat) .
Tried the CQ ... which encoded over 3 quantizers.
However, CRF seams to be the business and lets you stipulate qpmin/qpmax .
The 'estimated time remaining' is a bit whacky (jumps as wildly as the FPS) and includes ms (milliseconds)

Very customizable and includes x265.

Sorry, sorry.

I should have mentioned I didn't mean the current one. I was talking about the independent bugfixing going on of version 5. I've wanted to try the current one but I'm not willing to download the ununinstallable Silverlight just to use the damn website.

Cool you like it, though.

Does the newer version include support for multiple audio track encoding? That's one feature I miss from HDCtoX and is not in XVid4PSP (5).

Spoilt for choice ... clueless about "native" and "clone" options.

Version 7 is still in BETA ... but it's the "better" way to go.
It's compact , simplified and doesn't try to ... please too many people in too many ways.

Unfortunately, I couldn't encode this movie since I can't find the "Half Framerate".

I have issue while converting video and selecting subtiles to merge in mkv file that I will end up with no output.

anyone has similar issue, as this will not happen if subtitles are not selected then encoding and output is ok.

thanks for input guys
