Imagine that. Yes, this has been tested extensively by those in this thread. That youtube video (which I didn't bother to watch) is wrong.

you should he is one of the best in the field...
even if he is wrong.

there is a lot of context missing like what type of signal is send and such.

That's always the trouble with these blanket statements. There are a LOT of variables to contend with.

Everytime I see one of his videos mentioned, he is usually wrong about something or vastly generalizing. Must not be a good field.

i would like to disagree but i can't that just shows how good this field is covered. he is really one of the best out there to take a deeper look not deep enough but he tries.

Let's not forget Vincent is a pro calibrator first and foremost. He targets his videos to a general audience who don't really know the technical stuff that well.

He was also instrumental in getting the 2018 LG oleds the dithering 'fix' for the overshoot issue.

I have a lot of respect for Vincent and what he's done for the industry. That being said, he's not always correct. And when you don't take into account all the variables around a particular topic, making generalized statements can be problematic as we know. That doesn't negate the good he's done.

He has to generalise otherwise his videos would be hours long if he took every variable and every possible outcome into account :-)

And that's how you end up with the wrong conclusion at times.

Forgive me if this has already been answered, searched through this thread but didn't find an exact answer.

I know PC mode is preferred for gaming presumably for the low latency and better image/text in 4:4:4. However, if I am running in non PC mode to avoid banding in HDR, etc. won't the latency be the same as in PC mode if I am in using the game preset in non PC mode?

Just wondering but how important is 4:4:4 chroma actually in games, or when doing stuff like Photoshop, and what white point are you all using for the C8/C9 model D65 looks too green for me.

Also has it ever been mentioned why exactly there is more banding in PC mode?

Watch Episode 3 "the Long Night" of season 8 of Game of Thrones in HDR... What a banded mess in PC mode!

Are you able to get no frame drops in 4k without using SM? If so, can you share what you have done?

Thanks

I get frame drops but they're not too bad. I didn't do anything special. One of these days I should probably use CRU to create a custom resolution to make it even better. I forget exactly what the rate of drops I'm getting now is but I can live with it until I get motivated. Ideally you want to find a way to make 1 drop every 3+ hours. Anything over that is good.

Here it is (note that I have a 1060 card with the old 385.28 driver).

Thanks chros

Update: Doing great under RTX 2060 442.19 studio driver. No frame drops!

I was wondering how did you come up with those values?

FYI for those who are considering in switching to the video refresh rates, I have observed that under 4k refresh rates, 23FPS is the only one that is not supported under the EDID.
This needs to be customized in CRU. Using chros example, we are able to achieve a flawless playback under this setting.

Just beware of that example: if your original edid values are different it can cause issues. Now you made me curious what's your C9 (in your setup) edid values are (reported by madvr).
