DTS & dtswav files

There are explanations regarding differences between above 2 files. But my practical issue is

I have dtswav files in Wave container - These I can burn on CD & play & my AVR identifies & decodes as DTS while playing.

But those DTS files - They are in DTS containers. I'm not able to burn as Audio CD but could burn only as CD - ROM UDF only. And this file after burning is not even visible in my CD/DVD player & unable to play.

If I try to copy in USB or burn in DVD same case. It copies or burns. Afterwards file is invisible when I try to play in my AVR.

My goal I want to play this DTS in DTS container in my AVR like all other Audio files like AC3,Flac,dtswav etc.,

Can someone throw light?

DTSWAV files are discrete multichannel files with Red Book headers, designed to fool a CD player into thinking that the content is 16/44.1 red book audio. To put these on CD they need to be burned as CD-DA.

DTS files are padded multichannel at a bitrate of 1536kbps (the same as 16/48 PCM stereo) and are designed for use on DVD-Video, and I confess I have never tried to put these onto disc of any sort.
There is another variant CPT or Compact, which is far less common but mainly used in Apple's DVDSP tool.

Where did you get the DTS files from?
I can play .dts with no issues at all on my Marantz AVR (as well as .dtshd, .ac3 etc - not looked at .cpt but will do so)

Hmmm...

It took me quite a while to work-out how to burn DTS-CD compliant disc's for use with all my hardware playback devices.

Just-so-people-know, the native DTS audio stream for red-book compliant audio CD's is encoded a bit differently to the native DTS audio stream used for DVD's.

And the SPDIFer software I used to mux the native DTS audio stream into the WAV container can be a bit 'hit and miss' depending on how compliant the native DTS audio stream is in the first place!

Yes.My AVR is Denon AVR X1000 Model. And when it plays dtswav CD it decodes & shows as DTS.

But these .DTS from where to play in my AVR. If copies in USB file not visible.

In CD only as UHF but that also after burning not visible.

First of all how to record, get visibility & play in my AVR?

These native DTS in which media & how to record & play in AVR is my querry.

Try muxing your .dts audio streams into the Matroska container using MKVToolNix GUI With any luck your Denon will be able to detect (audio only) .mka files...

You are playing in your Marantz AVR means in which media these .dts files are recorded or played from. If CD it is dtswav in CDDA format and not .dts in dts container.

Only VLC is playing from PC & not from AVR these DTS files.Check what dts your Marantz playing

Something new & feels only workable solution. Can you explain in detail how I should go about this way & try

I have a Denon AVR X1500 like yours but 7.1 (Atmos).
By USB only accept stereo audio in mp3, mp4, m4a, aac, flac, wav and wma.

To play surround you need a player (PC or other) than send by SPDIF or HDMI the DTS, AC3, TrueHD or PCM multichannel.

There are TV's than accept USB's with multimedia player and can send the audio to AVR by SPDIF or HDMI.
Or buy cheap multimedia players, for instance http://www.agptek.com/product/AGPtek...V-HDD-HDMI-FR/

@nivedhya,

Can you upload one of your DTS files for testing purposes?

Hi all...

Out of interest I have created a couple of DTS in WAV muxes using SPDIFer. Please note that they are not DTS CD compliant but they might work when loaded onto a USB flash drive. Anyway, please give them a try...

Hopefully the following (WeTransfer) links will work: -

DTS in WAV 48KHz 24-bit (Jean-Michel Jarre, Aero) 60 second clip. Source: Jean-Michel Jarre, Aero DVD.

DTS in WAV 96KHz 24-bit (Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody) 60 second clip. Source: Queen, Greatest Hits DVD.

Cheers

Oppo UDP-205 plays both tracks perfectly from its Front USB (FAT32-Stick) -> HDMI Audio Out -> Sony DA5800ES -> 7.0 Setup

Bummer, that's a shame.

For me the format dtswav is only usefull for burn an audio CD.

The old BeSplit can extract the compact dts from the dtswav samples:
Code:
BeSplit -core( -input "C:\tmp\Aero.wav" -prefix "C:\tmp\Aero.wav" -type dtswav -fix )

BeSplit v0.9b8 by DSPguru.
--------------------------

[00:00:00:000] +------- BeSplit -----
[00:00:00:000] | Input : C:\tmp\Aero.wav
[00:00:00:000] | Source Sample-Rate: 48.0KHz
[00:00:00:000] | Channels Count: 5.1, Bitrate: 1536kbps
[00:00:00:000] | Output Prefix : C:\tmp\Aero.wav
[00:00:00:000] +---------------------
[00:00:59:999] | Writing C:\tmp\Aero.wav01.dtswav
[00:00:59:999] +---------------------
[00:00:59:999] Operation Completed !
[00:00:01:000] <-- Process Duration

15/12/2020 20:26 11.520.082 Aero.wav
16/12/2020 12:27 11.323.125 Aero.wav01.dtswav
If the compact dts can be played by USB like the dtswav don't make sense create bigger files with SPDIFer.

Can your Denon see/detect these 'BeSplit' .dtswav files when they are stored on an USB flash drive?

Cheers

Nope, BeSplit create the .dtswav extension but they are standard .dts (like .cpt created by DTS-HD Master Audio Suite) files and aren't recognized.

But in my case I play dtswav & flac as dts & DD in surround format, not only decoding shows the format but actual output also I find to 5.1
