Different Showing of Subtitles

When I use mpv to play a video with fonts as attachments, the subtitles look like this: https://imgur.com/HhmWyKe

But when I play it on other programs, they look like this: https://imgur.com/f2KhdNn

How does mpv show the subtitles differently, and how do I apply it to other tools like Aegisub, VirtualDub2, and StaxRip? And other video players like PotPlayer and MPC?

Usually, if the ASS subtitles are styled correctly and the fonts included in the MKV or on the user's computer, the styled text should appear, in MPC-HC at any rate; not sure about other players.

If the subtitles are not styled, you can use Aegisub to do that. But if you just want to capture screenshots, for example, I think you can set a font manually in MPC-HC, which would be simpler.

Here the subtitles I'm trying to modify. I also attached some fonts to it.

What font do you want to use? I saw that you attached Arial, Trebuchet, and Verdana.

In Aegisub, go to Subtitle, Styles Manager. Then edit either Default, OS, or On Top.

Then, when you're finished changing fonts, use Font Collector from the File menu to make a list, and include those in the MKV with MKVToolNix.

An ASS can store fonts inside the file as Base64, I think, but the better approach is to keep the fonts separate. Of course, you can use whichever method is more convenient.

Try each one of them and see which one matches the image from mpv.

Comparing the pictures, they are both Arial but the non-mpv one is bold.

Close. The shadow outlines are slightly thicker.
