How important would you say the Maximum Frame-Average Light reported by MediaInfo on HDR videos is? How does it compare in importance to peak brightness?

Also, what is Chroma subsampling Type 2 (4:2:0) as opposed to I guess Type 1, or whatever the default is when type is not specified?

irrelevant every TV monitor or PJ will do frame by frame tonemapping anyway. and that is done by measuring each frame individual.

type 2 is uhd chroma (i usually don't use the type information but top left tl or UHD) madVR can't handle this information and will do it always wrong with everything that is not type 0 center left or mpeg2/mpeg4 which should be used if the information is missing and what madVR will always use no matter what and that is was the far majority of information files is.

this is one of the topics i'm to stupid to actually understand no matter how many papers i read.
mpeg 2 Chroma needs to be moved to the left to match luma but no matter how many paper i read i see that it needs to be moved to the left: https://www.poynton.ca/PDFs/Chroma_s...g_notation.pdf

i'm wrong incapable to learn. don't be me be better.

Any solution for the upgrade nag I've started getting? I don't see any newer builds out there that would stop it.

I managed to fix this by changing VSync from regular to adaptive mode. Might be just a placebo, but seems smoother now than even the working display modes were. What was wrong before was almost epilepsy inducing frame skipping. Has no one else here on NVidia and Win 11 not had to do this?

Well there seems to be a glitch where it first decides the composition rate should be 23.000Hz, before changing it to 23.977 only after alt+tabbing. Fun.

false positive anti virus software is literally the virus these days.

this happens quite a lot in the past years with mpc-be.

...and there's yet more to report. It can apparently also change back to 23.000Hz, without even alt+tabbing, just pausing. Yeah, I really did fix this display mode.

This sounds to me like there is something in the background grabbing focus? I think madshi has already suggested this might be happening and is looking into it.

the composition rate is the desktop "refreshrate".

could be something simple like actually asking for 23p which was an alias for 24000/1001 and is now taken literally. which is not done anymore so removing display modes could fix it. tabbing in and out may actual refresh it and fixes it in the process. true FSE has no composition rate.

the bit deep think has something todo with focus this issue shouldn't but not like i can actually read that code.

Alright, thank you for the feedback. The final conclusion is that it will even change back on the fly, without me even pausing or anything. I will continue using display modes as everything works well enough with the even numbers (24,25,30,50,60), at least well enough to not go back to manually changing the refresh rate every damn time before and after watching a video.
