MeGUI Not Updating

Heya,

My MeGUI seems to have stopped updating with x264 1183 - Jeeb's?

It reports that it has the latest copy, but there's been tons of improvements since that v according to the change log on x264.nl?

Thanks.

Add http://kurtnoise.free.fr/MeGUI/ to your server list, it worked for me.

No, it's over. No suprise in front-end land,
while people posting crash screens on the fly, leaving all your
nice customers in the bare cold, without even a single word, it is an example of the attitude that surrounds this forum, and especially the attitude of the creators of the stuff that people may not say 1 negative word about.

Once again, people get a clue that for serious front-end apps or even h264 encoders, you should better trust programmers that do not "house" here on Doom9.

Thanks, that worked for me too.

I was getting worried about reading all about the new builds and then they wouldn't appear in MeGUI's updater.

ROFL, registered for 2 years and just commented on death of X Y or Z ... what will be next weeks death prediction?!? We wait with baited breath for your indepth insights ...

As for everybody else, how stable and fast are the 1053+ versions that get updated by adding the above URL?!? Will 1053+ updates be added to the old MeGUI update servers, or is it better to download and install 1053 with a clean install to flush any cr#p?!?

Everything is as it was. It's just that the person who updates the main update server is missing (Sharktooth). So if you want to stay up to date, use the above mirror for the time being.

IMHO update features are not worth the trouble, I've removed all of them in my application and since then everything become much easier.

Until a new version of MeGUI is released, I wouldn't go about manually updating x264 and expect MeGUI to do anything useful. For now, stick with the last version 0.3.1.1056 and x264 (1183).

Reason is- x264 has been heavily modified in the last ~135 revisions or so with major functionality changed; they're striving for Blu-Ray compliance. Most of the changes appear to affect anything having to do with b-frames. When the x264 team "calms down" and produces what they see as a stable release, we should at that time expect updates to MeGUI to take advantage of the new functionality.

Trust me, I've looked at every way I know how to modify the jobs so newer editions of x264 can be used, but it simply isn't worth the extra effort right now.

I totally agree

besides, the current state of updates are doing fine so no need to update anything and I think it will suit most people

There's been only three changes in the past 3 months relating to Blu-ray compliance. MB-tree commits have outnumbered them by about 30

Also, I don't intend to ever "calm down"

another reason to keep profiles in easy and accessible form

Code:
X264;1;UltraFast;--preset ultrafast
X264;2;VeryFast;--preset veryfast
X264;3;Faster;--preset faster
X264;4;Fast;--preset fast
X264;5;Medium;--preset medium
X264;6;Extreme Quality;--preset medium --trellis 0 --ref 4 --deblock -1,-1 --subme 9 --direct auto --me umh --b-adapt 2 --no-chroma-me
X264;7;Slow;--preset slow
X264;8;Slower;--preset slower
X264;9;VerySlow;--preset veryslow
X264;10;Placebo;--preset placebo
that's HDC profile file.

quite easy to edit and understood

1056 is working flawlessly with latest x264

1. clean installation of latest megui
http://sourceforge.net/projects/megui/

2. install latest avisynth
http://sourceforge.net/projects/avisynth2/files/

3. start megui, but dont update yet.

4. put this in for update server. http://megui.org/auto/

5. update everything except the core, as 1057 breaks megui presets

6. encode

I tried that and it totally hosed my install (.56) for some reason. Kept getting tons of errors about my presets XML files and crap. Had to reinstall..

Although thankfully a thread on here got me a working version of x264.exe that would recognize some of the advance settings and preset settings it had previously complained about.

Simple information, but very very useful and needed. I think it's strange something like that post isn't a sticky here.

How about you download a build from x264.nl or the current builds thread on this forum and then just stick it into the correct folder?
