Outlook 2007 , keeps asking for password, need help

i have outlook 2007,
i use this for all my emails, but just as of last week my *******@hotmail.com and ********@outlook.com emails started asking me for password every time i open outlook 2007, even after i type in the correct pw it then ask me again and again continuously.
when i goto control panel - Mail - email accounts then double click on my hotmail account it opens up the settings for it, i then do a test account settings, and it gives me ticks saying it good. if i load up outlook.live.com webpage the email comes thru there ok. but i dont want that, i want to use outlook 2007 to open and check all my emails as i have always done.
so i am asking for any help please to solves this.
i have tried changing passwords and that gives me same issue for both email accounts. i have done google search as a lot of people have had this same issue, but i cant fix it.

i am running windows 10 Home. 64bit.

I'd highly recommend not running such an old app, if nothing else for reasons of security.

yeah i hear what your saying, and i really like the layout of the 2007 version and it has always worked perfect til now, its really well made, i was thinking if i have to upgrade to a higher version , but i dont know if if theres a similar looking version , as mine is 16 years old now.
i dont like the outlook web version thats out now.
i was sort of thinking that there is a setting that has been changed by a windows update and all i need to do is correct a setting or something to make it work again for hotmail.com and outlook, com emails, i dont really know enough to tinker with regedit and hotkeys, but within the outlook settings i am pretty familiar. hopefully someone here can advise me of a fix if there is one, or maybe like you said , it may be low security now and thats why it not working. i dont want to buy another program just for these 2 email addresses.

I cant use FireFox on android to access hotmail, not sure when it happened.
My guess is that outlook 2007 functionality has been deliberately crippled by M$.

It is a habit of M$ to change stuff and give you the option to change to new method.
If you do not change, after a time they will screw you around until to do accept the new option.

The fact that it keeps asking your password is highly suspicious in the sense that everything points to an handshake problem.
When the client connects to the server it performs an handshake as part of the normal TLS authentication scheme: the server exposes a list of supported ciphers that it can accept and the client does the same.
There are lots of ciphers that can be used however 2007 was a very different time and most of the ciphers that were still supported back then like 3DES and RC4 are considered broken now. Assuming that Outlook 2007 can't perform AES256, what I think it's happening is that the Microsoft server is probably saying "I can do AES256 and ChaCha20" while outlook 2007 is saying "I can do 3DES and RC4" and they don't match, so the Microsoft server replies "no can do, kiddo" and the connection fails during the handshake process.

Mine is just speculation, though.

Microsoft says Outlook apps can’t connect to Outlook.com

Microsoft is investigating an issue that prevents Outlook and other email clients from connecting when using an Outlook.com account.

"Since starting around 1/23/24 users have reported issues connecting with Outlook 2013, Outlook 2016, Outlook for Microsoft 365, Thunderbird, and mobile email apps when connecting with POP, IMAP, and Exchange connections," Microsoft says.

"Some users have reported that signing in with an App Password works to connect but later goes back into a disconnected state."

Customers reported experiencing sign-in problems linked to this issue since last Tuesday on Microsoft's community platforms and social networks like Reddit.

Sounds to me like what was posted in post #8. ie Micro$oft cocked it up, then fixed it.

Microsoft fixes connection issue affecting Outlook email apps
Microsoft has fixed a known issue causing desktop and mobile email clients to fail to connect when using Outlook.com accounts.

"The Outlook.com Team implemented service changes on January 31, 2024, and February 2, 2024, to address the connection issues with unexpected authentication prompts.," Microsoft said.

"For Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2016, if you are still seeing authentication prompts, please ensure you've enabled two step verification and create an app password. Use the app password in place of your normal password when Outlook prompts for authentication."

More details on how to use app passwords with apps without two-step verification support can be found in this support document.

as stainless stated, looks like it was a microsoft issue, really annoying that something like that can happen and it was hard to find anything concrete that would tell me it was MS,
i also didnt know the exact time it started to not work as i had my pc on for several days and that one day i check my email and the password thing kept popping up repeated was like , shit whats happening.
luckily i didn't uninstall outlook and lose all my settings and emails etc.. i went through hell not knowing what caused this and having to redo all dam passwords and redoing all outlook settings and so on took me a lot of time and frustration. i know a bit about stuff but not too tech savy,
Then i went to open outlook to try any other fix again and it just started working like nothing had happened, so im very glad it was sorted out. and some good advice from the guys here. i know i need to uppdate to a newer version , buts its very difficult going from outlook 2007 ( a perfect program ) to the newer bulky over cluttered newer versions. but will have make that step eventually.

i am also seeing a lot of programs now saying to use app passwords in stead of typing in your password. i hate when they tell you to use another program to accesss a program, ill need to see a video on this how it works and if i understand it. i think facebook and or google are asking for this new feature when signing in. More BS i hate.

It seems to end up as one entity (under various brands) being in possession of all passwords "for you".

So, Outlook 2007 is kinda old, and it might not play nice with newer security stuff. Try removing your accounts and adding them back with the updated settings. If that doesn't work, maybe turn on two-step verification and make a special password for Outlook. That sometimes helps.

Or, you could just upgrade to Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2021 like I did. It works great, and no more login problems since I switched. Got mine at a decent price too! So you can check out here.
