Since my previous ask now I am in the situation I would like to do it again. Are there any move forward regarding 7.1ch DD+ encoding? Regards szabi |

Out of interest... What's the make and model number of your AVR. And what playback device are you using to access your surround sound audio files?

Didn't Adobe remove all their Dolby encoders a couple years ago due to a major disagreement about licensing?
TotalCode seems to have most features exposed. It can do uncommon channel layouts such as Quad, disable the highpass filter, disable dynamic compression. The rear and side channels in 7.1 can be swapped in the GUI. DTS channel order is completely wrong, but AC-3 remapping from WAV order seems to happen within the encoder itself. It takes RF64 without DirectShow, which can be produced in Reaper. To access blu-ray disk encoding mode with an AC-3 core and bitrates over 1 Mbit, you have to pull a Blu-ray preset, and can then remove the video stream. In the normal mode the core is EC-3. The SRC has atrocious quality, and the inputs must be resampled to 48000 Hz if they are not already. An older version of TotalCode 2.1.0 has impractical bitrates up to 3 Mbit, but only 5.1, and the other sampling frequencies selectable for regular AC-3, and a HD-DVD flavor of EC-3 with small frames. But it reads from DirectShow and may lose samples or quality. Quote:

I tested Adobe Audition 2017 but also MainConcept TotalCode Studio v5.3.0 but is useless for me because my audio system is 3D 5.1.2 (L R C LFE Ls Rs Vhl Vhr), layout not present in TotalCode, and not the standard 2D 7.1 (L R C LFE Ls Rs Lrs Rrs)

Do you use DEE for that setup? What are the “switches” you touch?

I test DEE v5.2.0 and only output the standard 2D 7.1 (L R C LFE Ls Rs Lrs Rrs) even if the input wav (RF64) file have a correct 3D 5.1.2 channel mask FL,FR,FC,LFE,SL,SR,TFL,TFR

5.1.2 only from Atmos sources, I listen a mix of Side (90º) and Back (135º) in my Surround (120º) speakers, does not have sense use my Top Front speakers.

Interesting that Dolby themselves don't offer 6.1 as an output option at all in DEE/DME, but I guess there really aren't any new 6.1 ES/EX mixes being created. That stanky old version of Audition is useful after all! I only kept it installed because I was too lazy to migrate all of my different effect and effects rack presets.
It works much the same as encoding to 7.1 does, including required channel remapping. Audition's DD+ export (incorrectly) assumes that the channel layout is 3/3 (L R C LFE Ls Rs Cs) whereas anything you import (FLAC with a plugin, WavPack with a plugin, WAV, etc) will all correctly assume L R C LFE Cb Ls Rs when decoded. If you're using eac3to to decode your DTS-HD-MA-ES/TrueHD6.1 - make sure to add -0,1,2,3,5,6,4. This moves the extra (SPEAKER_BACK_CENTER) channel to where Audition's encoder is expecting it. If you forget, you can use the "channel mixer" effect in Audition, but it's slow and it will gobble up extra temp space because effects have to be applied to the file before you can export, at least in 2015.2. The rest (bitrate, pre-processing, DRC, etc.) is up to you, but I only ever enable LFE Lowpass if it's needed since it does the filtering in parallel with the encode. 768k is probably overkill when an opus or AAC half the size would do, but at least I don't have to worry about my AVR or Windows or whatever screwing channel mapping up with bitstreamed DD+. Hopefully this'll help anyone encoding the tiny amount of content out there with a discrete 6.1 mix. |
