Is it wise to capture VHS a little more sharp if you want to denoise after
Hi there i am new here. I do capturing Video - Laserdisc for 20 years now. 15 years ago i started to capture with pc in uncompressed mode and than i used Avisynth - Neatvideo. I have 3 vcrs with TBC a DVD-VHS combi for Secam-L an external frame TBC some procamps... Than i stopped my hobby for some years but last year after i bought a Diamond VC500 usb capture device i started again capture in Lagarith with AmarecTV. To work with Avisynth i always was reading here and over at videohelp to get it to work. My captures are most of the time PAL (i am from germany). But sometimes i do Secam-L too (hate it). I was thinking i am not good enough to go here but after i had a small conversation over at youtube with lollo5468 what helped me a lot. I was thinking ok to get better i go to Doom9 and i ask the hotshots.
So here is my small first question. I made a capture of a very dark not sharp tape after i was ready i fixed the gamma - picture was good details in dark wich were lost are back again but black had still to much noise after Temporaldegrain2 and a little DeHalo_Alpha. So i made a new capture with high contrast and sharp setting (80). Used the same settings in my script for Teporaldegrain2.. Now i am very pleased with my result. Gamma is ok many details lost in the dark are there noise is gone and the sharpness is good too for what it was before. Is it wise to capture more sharp if you want to get more details out of the picture, especially if the movie is widescreen on VHS and you want a anamorphic DVD or a MKV. It was the first time i did this, maybe others do it too and have more experience.
